Flooring for a living room
The living room is a space for friends and family to gather and relax, and the flooring is an important aspect of a living room, so it’s important to make sure that you choose the right type of flooring for your living room.
What’s the best type of flooring for a living room?
Nothing beats hardwood flooring for living rooms. There are so many reasons why hardwood flooring is great for living rooms, and there are also reasons why other materials aren’t. Read on to learn why:
A vast selection of hardwood
There’s a virtually endless selection of hardwood options to choose from. For instance, oak, hickory, ash, maple, bamboo, are all vastly different types of bamboo. Each type of wood has it’s own unique features and adds character to a room.
Other flooring material isn’t as versatile and can’t be matched as well with a room.
Hardwood flooring will last many years
Additionally, hardwood flooring is both durable and sustainable. It can last well over 20 years when properly maintained. And, even if slight damage occurs, you can sand and refinish the material as many times as needed.
It’s a good idea to attach protective pads to the legs of all of your furniture. You should also make sure to avoid spilling liquids and, if you do, make sure to clean them immediately. Hardwood is a porous material, which means that if moisture is left on the surface for an extended period of time, it could lead to cupping or curling of the surface.
Other types of flooring can get dirty quite easily. Carpet, for example, is difficult and expensive to clean, so it’s not a great material for areas of high traffic.
Natural stone shows dirt more easily than hardwood does, which means that you’d have to clean it constantly.
Alternatives to hardwood flooring: Engineered or Vinyl Plank flooring
Hardwood flooring doesn’t always fit in everyone’s budget, which is why there are some great alternatives available: engineered hardwood and vinyl plank flooring.
Engineered hardwood is a multi-layer material that is made to look like hardwood. Its multiple layers help give it cushion and make it less vulnerable to water penetration.
The best part is that the look of engineered hardwood does not suffer at all to actual hardwood. The reason why is because engineered hardwood is topped with real hardwood! It can be any wood type you choose.
Engineered hardwood isn’t extremely cheap, but it’s slightly less expensive than real hardwood.
Another alternative to real hardwood is vinyl plank flooring. Vinyl plank flooring is multi-layered as well, just like engineered hardwood. Therefore, it is also somewhat moisture- and scratch-resistant. The difference between the two is that vinyl plank flooring is topped with a high-resolution image of hardwood rather than real hardwood.
Still, the look hardly suffers. You might be able to tell the difference with vinyl, but it’s still an appealing material. Vinyl is extremely inexpensive when compared to real hardwood flooring.
Wood is the best flooring material for a living room. It’s classic and elegant looks will appeal to everyone!
