Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring

Luxury Vinyl Flooring

Luxury vinyl flooring has become a desired flooring option. Due to advancements in technology, luxury vinyl plank flooring has become more and more visually appealing over the years. It’s no longer just a flooring option that’s chosen by people who can’t afford other flooring options. While it’s not necessarily the perfect flooring option, you’ll find that it has more advantages than disadvantages.

AdvantagesLuxury Vinyl Plank Flooring

Visually appealing

Luxury vinyl plank flooring can be made to imitate wood, tile, or stone flooring. In fact, it does so quite successfully. Chances are, your guests won’t be able to notice that your flooring isn’t real wood/tile.

Additionally, there are many designs that you can choose from, not just wood or tile.

Moisture-resistant

Luxury vinyl plank flooring is made up of many different layers, including a thick urethane layer. These layers benefit luxury vinyl plank flooring in many ways. In particular, it’s resistant to moisture, staining, and scratching. One of the main issues with real hardwood is its vulnerability to moisture. Due to this, hardwood flooring can’t really be installed in kitchens or bathrooms.

Moisture-resistance isn’t an issue with luxury vinyl plank flooring, so it’s perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and even basements and laundry rooms. The thickness and multi-layered nature of luxury vinyl plank flooring makes it more comfortable to walk on. Additionally, it’s scratch-resistant, which is great for pets. Luxury vinyl plank flooring should last for about 15-20 years.

Easily Installed

Another benefit of luxury vinyl plank flooring is that it can be installed quite easily. In fact, you can probably install it yourself. Vinyl flooring can either be glued down or clicked into place. Vinyl can be installed on top of a subfloor, whether it’s made of vinyl, or concrete, or plywood. The subfloor is the most important part of luxury vinyl plank flooring installation.

Affordable

Since luxury vinyl plank flooring imitates other flooring, it’s much less expensive. Vinyl tends to cost between $2 – $7 per square foot, similar to engineered hardwood. The main difference between luxury vinyl plank and engineered hardwood flooring is that luxury vinyl plank flooring is scratch-resistant. Since engineered hardwood is topped with real hardwood, the surface will still scratch. Given all of it’s benefits, luxury vinyl plank flooring is a pretty good deal.

Disadvantages

Requires a flawless subfloor

Earlier, we briefly mentioned a sublfloor. Since luxury vinyl plank flooring will be installed on top of a subfloor, imperfections of the subfloor will eventually begin to show through if they’re not fixed beforehand. Imperfections in subfloors refers to dents, stains, cracks, etc. It’s essential that the subfloor is completely even and free from moisture as well. Luxury vinyl plank flooring is moisture-resistant; however, moisture on the subfloor can damage the planks.

Weak against sunlight

Luxury vinyl plank flooring can begin to fade if constanatly exposed to harsh sunlight. Due to this, people avoid having it installed outdoors or in areas of their home that experience harsh sunlight.
