Does marble floor tile need to be sealed?
Sealing marble flooring
Marble flooring adds a sense of luxury to your home. However, it’s also among the more expensive flooring options. You want your marble flooring to last for many years to come, so you’ll need to keep them well-maintained. Maintaining marble flooring includes having them sealed.
Why should you seal your marble flooring?
Marble is porous, which means that it’s vulnerable to damage caused by moisture penetration. For example, if you spill wine on your marble flooring, it will end up staining. This is even more of a risk if you don’t wipe up the spill immediately.
Marble flooring is typically installed in kitchens and bathrooms. These are areas that experience constant moisture and spills. Thus, it’s extremely important to have your marble flooring sealed in order to avoid it being damaged.
How do you seal a marble floor?
Sealing marble is quite easy; so much so that yoyu can probably handle doing it on your own. You can seal your marble flooring within an hour or two by following these easy steps:
First, you have to clean the marble. You can do so by using a pH neutral cleaning solution so that the marble doesn’t get damaged. You can find a marble cleaning solution at your local home improvement store. Just make sure that it’s not an acidic solution.
After cleaning your flooring and making sure it’s completely dry, you can go ahead and apply the sealant. Just make sure to test it in a small corner to make sure that the sealant doesn’t discolor your flooring. You should make sure to apply the sealant one tile a time.
That’s all there is to it! Just wait a few hours to let your flooring dry. You should wait 2-3 days before cleaning it to make sure your sealant is in place.
